A Practical Starting Point for CMMC Readiness

By Jamie Repesh

CMMC requirements are now being incorporated into Department of Defense (the Department) contracts following the November 10 effective date of DFARS 252.204-7021. With the first year of implementation centered on self-assessments, many contractors are taking a closer look at what CMMC involves and how to approach it with clarity.

These expectations aren’t new, but the formal inclusion of CMMC in procurements has prompted organizations to confirm how their existing measures align with the required practices. CMMC Level 1 applies to organizations that handle Federal Contract Information (FCI). It does not apply to environments where Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) is processed or created; those contractors require CMMC Level 2, which follows a more extensive set of requirements aligned to NIST SP 800-171. Understanding this distinction is important for determining which requirements apply to your organization and how to plan your compliance path.

To support that, DTS is making CyberSchool™ CMMC Level 1 Training available at no cost with the access code CMMCSTART.

A Clear, Accessible Foundation for Contractors

DTS CyberSchool™ CMMC Level 1 Training was created to help contractors gain a foundational understanding of Level 1 practices in plain terms. It:

  • Presents an overview of each requirement
  • Explains what those practices mean operationally
  • Shows how documentation and evidence are commonly addressed during the process
  • Is delivered in a self-paced format designed for real-world workflows.

Whether you are preparing for a self-assessment, coordinating with subcontractors, or seeking clarity on Level 1 requirements, the training offers a starting point. While not a substitute for implementation or assessment work, it helps you move forward with the work required for Level 1.

With the implementation timeline underway and the Department FAQs offering detailed clarification, contractors have more tools to move forward purposefully. DTS CyberSchool™ CMMC Level 1 Training is available as another source of support for organizations as they prepare for CMMC.
